The disaster which befell the RMS Titanic shocked the world. Naval disasters were scarce. Many other ships had struck icebergs before the disaster occurred. Yet this submerged mammoth proved too much for man’s wonder of engineering, resulting in the sinking of the Titanic. The story has been immortalized through fictional tales, documentaries and award winning feature films. The lives lost on that tragic day are forever held in memory due to the size of this horrible disaster. The rescue attempt which followed was one of the most courageous and caring displays of man’s dedication to life. All nearby ships went to the rescue of the sinking mammoth, however only a small amount of survivors made it out alive. The RMS Titanic was revolutionary marvel of engineering constructed on Queen’s Island. This mammoth creation was build in the area now famous as “Titanic Quarter”. The photo above is from Belfast Harbor. It is a post-construction photo of The Titanic and the Harland and Wolff shipyard. No one could have ever forespelt disaster for this amazing ship!
